About the Onam Celebrations in Purva Panorama
All the mallu chetas and chechis of Purva Panorama get together in a once-in-a-year affair to celebrate the Onam festival.
Legend has it that the gods plotted against Mahabali to end his reign. For this they sent Lord Vishnu to earth in the form of a dwarf Brahmin. But before being trampled down to the netherworld, Vishnu granted the king's sole wish: To visit his land and people once every year.
The event gets kick-started with the traditional laying of "Pookalam" at the entrance of Purva Panorama Club House (where the events were held)
By the time we concluded the Pookalam we had our "Chenda Melam" ready to beat the drums in your ears...... or rather... music to your ears :)
We took out a procession with our Drumming brothers.... all throughout the Purva premises..... (with a lot of onlookers from all the balconies of Purva.... enjoying the fun)
And then we started the cultural programs hosted by our very own RV (of course you know who) who managed to say a lot of words in PURE MALAYALAM, only to be demanded with some English translation later, since we had lot of spectators in the audience, who didn't understand a word of Malayalam.
All the programs were performed in full glory and it was total ONAM ENTHUSIASM flowing all over the place.... The kids and mothers alike did a wonderful job..... Not to miss the wonderful solo songs and skits performed by the "men-in-white"
And a what a way to end the whole event with a Sumptuous "Onam Sadhya".....
which was flooded with mouth-watering items, and was devoured without blinking an eyelid.
All the more fun watching the queue for the food, waiting patiently.... ende number eppo varum :)
Here's wishing one and all " Happy Onam".....!!!!!
Will be happy to see your comments about the photographs.
